Jose’s cousin and his family came down over the weekend for a tour of NASA. They actually live in Houston, but all the way on the other side of town in the suburbs. It’s an hour or more between us so even though we’re technically in the same metropolitan area, we hardly ever see them. Big city, yadda yadda.
Anyway, we took them to Mission Control, Rocket Park, and the Building 9 training facilities (which is where I took the photo of Emma and Charlotte above). The six kids were 5 and under and unsurprisingly, they weren’t too interested. (The biggest exception were the robots visible in Building 9, which they thought were cool.) But they behaved well enough for the adults to enjoy it.

Yesterday was the monthly Gulf Coast MQG meeting! I think I’ve made it to every single one since I discovered the fledgling group, so clearly I needed a quilt-related social group in my life! I took my barn quilt top for show-and-tell but as you can see, I haven’t made any progress beyond the top. I have time on the longarm reserved for this Friday, but I’m planning to use that for my 100 day project. For the barn quilt, I’m thinking of quilting simple horizontal straight lines about 1/2″ apart, and I can certainly do that on my home machine easily enough. (What can I say, I always go for something plain…)

Over the last year or so, I’ve really fallen out of the reading habit. Maybe two years, really, since I think it started around the time we moved to our new house. My study is so accessible that I always just wander in there after the girls are in bed and putter around until too late, and then collapse into bed. But a couple weeks ago I finally decided it was time to get back to reading more regularly. I’m currently reading Iron Gold, a sequel to the Red Rising trilogy that I read a few years ago. (Apparently it’s turning from a trilogy into a series now, since there’s already a 5th book in the works.) I’m about 30% through it and it’s ok so far but not as good as the previous three from what I can remember. My biggest problem is just that I don’t remember a lot of the details of the story in the first three books, and there’s definitely an assumption in this one that you know who’s who. (The plot takes place 10 years later.) There’s also a ton of violence, which gives me slight pause — I remember the first books being fairly violent too, but it seems a bit over the top this time? And so far, I really don’t like the main character much — I think he’s acting like an idiot. So! We’ll see how the rest turns out.

Emma’s birthday is less than a month away now, so it’s time to start the party planning I suppose! We talked about several different options, but in the end she chose to go back to Acrosports, where we’ve done parties three times before. No complaints from me, as it’s a fun place and they make party set-up pretty easy. She said she wants a superheros/Incredibles theme so that should be easy enough. I’m sure the party stores have plenty of Incredibles stuff in stock right now!

i couldn’t even finish Iron Gold. It seemed to be a book for the sake of writing another book because the trilogy did so well.. i dunno. not my thing.

Not a sterling review then. Ha! I remember liking the trilogy overall, other than thinking it was a little long. But this one just isn’t grabbing me the same way.
