We’d been looking forward to the 4th all week — neighborhood bike parade! Pool! Picnic! Fireworks! And then it started storming on Tuesday night and the rain didn’t let up until around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. By then, the bike parade had been cancelled, the pool had never even opened, and the park we’d planned go to for fireworks was a swamp. (And since the lightning on Tuesday night took out our internet, there wasn’t even Netflix for the girls! The horror!)
But then my neighbor suggested we go ahead and decorate bikes and just parade down our street, so we did, and some of the other neighbors came out to watch, and it was actually pretty perfect. And then we played next door and learned how to hit a t-ball, and our neighbor invited us to stay for hot dogs and macaroni for dinner. And then we drove over to a big ol’ parking lot next to the closed-due-to-swampiness park, where we sat next to our car and enjoyed a pretty spectacular fireworks show.
And actually, it turned out to be quite a nice holiday after all.
