After a whopping 4 days at home, I am headed out of town for the weekend again — for another wedding, no less. I haven’t been to a wedding in a few years and suddenly there are two on back-to-back weekends! This weekend it’s two of my best friends from college, and I’m looking forward to catching up several of my friends from those days.

I’ve been reading a lot this summer and realized this week as I finished another book (The Martian by Andy Weir) that I’m on track for 20 books this year! I’ve had this same goal for the past several years but haven’t ever gotten there — I usually get distracted by other pursuits and don’t make time for reading. But for the past few months I’ve been able to maintain my reading momentum and it’s been fun! At the moment, I’m reading Life After Life by Kate Atkinson for book club.

I couldn’t resist taking my own photo with Emma in front of the MIT dome last week. I did get in there for grad school but just chose to go to Stanford instead…so that kinda counts, right? (It’s funny to think that if I’d chosen to head to Boston for grad school, Jose and I actually might have met even earlier!)

Here’s another phone shot from our short walk through the wooded dunes to the beach for the wedding ceremony last weekend. I love that little peach dress! I need to find an opportunity for Emma to wear it again before she outgrows it…

A few weeks ago, Emma only had one weekly activity — swimming lessons with me. Suddenly, within the past few weeks, it has grown to FOUR. At daycare, she’s now doing Tumblebus (basically a mini-gym inside an old school bus) and “dance” classes (which is really just music/movement at this age). I also signed us up for a parent/child gym class on Saturday mornings after taking advantage of a few free classes in August to test it out.
On the one hand, I’m excited because she loves all this stuff. But on the other hand…four activities?? She’s only 2!

But come on. Look how cute she is in that dance class… (She’s the one in the middle.)

I keep thinking I’m done with UHCL, and then they reel me back in for something else. My professor invited me to give a short presentation about my Master’s Project on Wednesday night to a group of current students who are either starting their own projects or starting the digital media program, period. It was kind of comical for me to stand there giving advice — after all, my pitch began with “I spent four years taking classes, and then I spent four years doing nothing, and then I decided to finish because if I didn’t, my classes were going to start expiring.” Ha!
But it was fun to give my perspective, and share some advice on the project process.
