I’ll call this one the “It’s Been a Frustrating Few Days” edition…

Emma felt a little warm on Tuesday morning when I got her up, but the thermometer said 99.6 and she was acting totally normal. I decided to take my chances, so I dropped her off at daycare and settled in at my desk. At 3:30, I finally got the phone call I had sort of been expecting all day — she had a fever and had to go home. Sigh.

Of course she couldn’t go back for at least 24 hours (or until she’s fever-free), so Jose stayed home with her on Wednesday. In the process, he snapped two of my new favorite photos:
Even when she’s sick, she’s just so darn cute.

On Wednesday evening, she still had a slight fever, was coughing a lot, and wheezing a bit so I stayed home with her yesterday and made an appointment with her pediatrician. It turns out that she likely has RSV, a respiratory virus that is common among kids. The doctor gave us some stuff to open up Emma’s airways to alleviate the wheezing, and hopefully the virus will run its course quickly.

Remember how I mentioned we have test driven a few cars and were deciding whether to sell or trade my old 2004 Xterra? We were/are literally weeks or DAYS away from getting rid of it, which makes the timing of what happened yesterday even more amazing. As I was feeding (sick) Emma her breakfast and figuring out what to do with the couple hours before her pediatrician appointment, Jose called to say that the car died on him at Starbucks. Awesome, right?
And OF COURSE this happened on a day that Emma was sick, and therefore not at daycare, and therefore had to be dragged along as we dealt with the car before finally making it to the pediatrician.
We just replaced the battery a few months ago, but tried a jump start anyway. Alas, no luck there, so my poor decrepit Xterra ended up on the back of a tow truck en route to a repair shop. Turns out there’s oil leaking from a gasket on one side of the engine, and it dripped all over the electrical components of the starter, and voila. Dead starter. Plus the oil leak.
Yaaaay.

So between Emma having RSV and one of our cars dying, yesterday was pretty great. I’ll wrap up with two less frustrating things.

Since I started doing gel nails in mid-October, I’ve gone from light pink to light shimmery pink to darker pink/mauve to bright shimmery red. Last Friday, I impulsively decided to venture way outside my comfort zone and got a shimmery navy blue. And you know what? I like it! I’ve always thought I didn’t like “crazy” nail colors, but I guess I was wrong.

Jose’s mom gave him/us a Soda Stream for Christmas and I am kind of obsessed with it right now. I was skeptical about this thing when I saw commercials in the past, but it is actually pretty neat. It came with a huge sampler pack of like 20 different flavors and we’ve tried 4 or 5; while the soda flavors aren’t as good as the “real” thing, the fruity ones are really pretty tasty. My favorite so far is cranberry-raspberry.
