We used to have these bushes in the backyard outside our bedroom window — they’re often called the “Yesterday Today and Tomorrow” plant. Sadly they died in last February’s winter apocalypse and we had to cut them all the way back to the root. Fingers crossed that one day they look this pretty again!
In any case, I thought of them when I saw “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” used as a blogging prompt recently!

Yesterday…
My mom, who had been visiting us this week to help out while I was briefly incapacitated due to minor surgery, flew home. I dropped her off at the airport around 9, and hit the Starbucks drive-thru on the way home since we were out of milk and couldn’t make our own lattes.
Emma and I went to a birthday party in the park for our next door neighbor, who turns 6 in a few weeks. Unfortunately Charlotte had to stay home, as she came home on Friday afternoon with a fever — that turned out to be strep throat.
I watched qualifying for today’s F1 race, and generally sat around the rest of the day after a busy morning.
I stitched hanging sleeves and labels onto Emma and Charlotte’s quilts to get them ready for QuiltCon!
After the girls went to bed, Jose and I watched the latest episode of Wheel of Time. I haven’t read the books but Jose’s read the first three. We’re both enjoying the series!
Today…
We had donuts for breakfast. This is becoming a fairly regular Sunday thing, for better or worse! Jose hits the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru and comes home with one for each of us. I’d been enjoying a pumpkin donut for the past few months, but sadly they didn’t have them today so I made do with sour cream.
I started a new puzzle — this one from Elise Joy’s ongoing Make36 project. (Looks like she still has some left if you’re interested! It’s a challenging one.)
I watched the F1 race that was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. My interest in Formula 1 has only grown as I’ve been watching races this year after being introduced to the sport via Netflix. It’s sort of bizarre — I would never have guessed I’d be into any kind of auto racing at ALL. But I’m fascinated by the big personalities of the drivers and team principals, the technology in the cars, and the strategy involved in trying to gain fractions of a second over opponents. Today’s race was totally crazy — to the point that even the announcers were saying they’d never seen anything quite like it. There’s only 1 race left in the season, and the top two drivers are tied for the lead, which means that final race is going to be a doozy!
The girls helped me seal and stamp our holiday cards, and we dropped them off in the mailbox. Nice to have that done!
We ordered a new dining table! We’ve been searching on-and-off for something for a couple years now, as our current table is one that Jose bought before we even met, and it has not fared well through the little kid years. It’s been surprisingly difficult to find something that met our needs — we need a somewhat smaller footprint for most days, but wanted to be able to add a leaf to extend the table when we have more than four of us eating. We finally ended up at Ethan Allen. It’s certainly the pricier option, but we were able to get pretty much exactly what we wanted. It’ll be several months before the table actually arrives (mid-April is the tentative delivery date), but I’m happy that we finally found something.
Tomorrow…
My first workday in basically two weeks, thanks to holiday + medical leave. I wouldn’t say I’m excited — work is never as fun as no-work — but at least it’ll be a nice, short push to the holidays and then we’ll all have more time off!
I’ll be working on my December newsletter for Sarah Ruiz Quilts and hopefully sending it out either tomorrow or Tuesday. (If you’re not on my list yet, join here!)
I need to get my booty in gear on Christmas shopping for the girls. I have some ideas but need to actually get several things ordered!!
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blogging challenge.
Ah, this is a lovely writing prompt! I might have to borrow it.
Glad you are recovering from your surgery! A pumpkin donut sounds yummy! Hope Charlotte feels better soon!
It IS a fun prompt, right? I’ll definitely use it again! These days I often have trouble writing about all the day-in, day-out stuff but I really do like having some of the mundane stuff documented so I can look back on it years from now.
Same on F1! And that race was insane. I can’t wait to see how Netflix covers it.
Ha — I’ve had a similar thought about the Netflix show! They’re going to need like 30 episodes to even come close to covering some of the craziness of this season.
