It’s been a really wonderful month full of friends and family and fun. I’m totally in denial that I have to go back to work in January, although on the plus side I have this whole next week off as well.
My brother left on Friday, and my parents left Saturday morning (and arrived home in NC this evening). It’s certainly been a lot quieter with everyone gone, and we all spent the weekend feeling a bit adrift, I think. Today we didn’t even get dressed until after 1:00, and only left the house because we didn’t have anything to make for dinner.
This week the girls will got to daycare/camp for 3 days, and I’m planning to spend those hours doing several different things, I hope. Tomorrow will be a fun day with Jose, who also has it off. We need to drop our Highlander off for service, but then we’re going to MFAH to see their Impressionist and Norman Rockwell exhibits and have lunch somewhere up there.
The girls will be home again Tuesday and Wednesday, and we have plans to meet up with friends for New Years Day. Then I plan to spend Thursday and Friday taking care of a bunch of household tasks — installing some new shelves, taking down holiday decorations — and sewing.
December goals update:
+ Prioritize sleep and decent eating. Not so great. Why is this so hard??
+ Release Shake & Bake quilt pattern. Done!
+ Make a Christmas quilt. Will be done by the end of the month. And I made two throw pillows from the scraps!
+ Toy purge. Done! I got rid of a couple medium-sized boxes of outgrown toys and games, and the payoff was immediate. Our living room felt cleaner and calmer, and the girls rediscovered some old toys that had been buried under the mess.
Other December wins:
+ Christmas! We had a really wonderful holiday, made all the better with the visit from my parents and brother. It really made me remember how special it is to spend time with my family, especially around the holidays.
+ Christmas accoutrements. I started the planning and shopping and wrapping early enough that it felt very manageable and I never felt too stressed or overwhelmed by all that needed to be done to make it a great holiday for our family.
+ Enjoyed family holiday events like our neighborhood’s Santa visit and Zoo Lights.
+ Blogged for 31 days straight. For the third straight year too! The first half of the month was easy. The second half took more work.
+ Made cute skirts for my girls and my nieces. These were a great reminder of how fun quick and easy projects can be. Especially when they’re for kids!
+ Found out I had 2 quilts juried into QuiltCon 2020. My trip to Austin is less than 2 months away. Getting excited!
Bring it on, January!
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blogging challenge.
