2019 began in Charlotte, during a week-long trip to visit my family. Jose and I snuck away for 2 days in Charleston, which was just lovely. The rest of the month was dominated by the government shutdown that ended up lasting about 5 weeks in all. Craziness. I shared my 2018 quilting income and we got new kitchen floors.
In February, we got thrown back into our usual non-furlough routines. I got new flooring in my sewing room and sickness threw a monkey wrench in my QuiltCon plans. I was fortunately still able to go solo, and really had a great time.
In March I taught a quilting class and we went to the rodeo. We spent a few days in San Antonio for spring break. I shared a bunch of highlights from QuiltCon, and I turned 41!
April will not be remembered as one of my better months. I had another round of gum surgery (yuck) and got turned down for not one, not two, but THREE different opportunities at work. Oof. But we had a nice Easter, and I started my third 100 day project.
I brought monthly goal-setting back in May, and have been enjoying the opportunity to tackle smaller issues and trouble spots on a monthly basis. Jose turned 39 and we celebrated 10 years of marriage with a quick kid-free getaway to New Orleans. We also enjoyed a couple great dates, including the Van Gogh exhibit at MFAH.
June began with a bang — our trip to Disney World! I finished my Beauty Burst quilt top and Jose’s library quilt. We went swimming a lot. And I started a new assignment at work that later turned into a permanent change that will take effect in the new year.
We started July with a fun Independence Day, and later enjoyed many 50th anniversary of the lunar landing events at work. I found out that my Bob Ross quilt was a finalist in the Cherrywood Challenge, finished my ugly fabric challenge piece for GCMQG, finished my Central Pivot quilt, and finished my third 100 day project. Hooray for a lot of finishes!
We flew to North Carolina at the beginning of August to spend a fantastic week in Lake Lure with my family. Emma celebrated her birthday while we were there, and had a party with friends after we got back. Emma started 2nd grade, and Charlotte moved up to Room 9 at the daycare. Charlotte got a big girl bed at last. We went to an Astros game. And Jose left NASA and started a new job!! Perhaps the busiest month of the year!
Charlotte turned 4 at the beginning of September! I made a fun black and white mini quilt, participated in a tips & tricks blog hop, finished my Trinket quilt, and worked on several different projects. We went to Corpus Christi for a joint birthday party for the girls, and later the girls and I had a fun afternoon with the Astros while Jose was out of town.
In October, we had a lot of fall fun — everything from postseason baseball games to festivals. I designed my Shake and Bake pattern and used it to make both a Halloween quilt and a baby quilt. We visited the pumpkin-less pumpkin patch and had an excellent Halloween.
The Quilt Festival marked November’s arrival, and we had a fun (if short) visit there with the girls. We also checked out the Color Factory later in the month and loved it. Emma did her first science project and I made my Kushukuru quilt as part of a fabric collection blog hop. We had a nice, relaxing Thanksgiving in Corpus Christi with Jose’s family, where we also went to a family wedding.
And that brings us to December! It was a great month and I’ve blogged every single day! As part of that, I wrote a post reminiscing about my years at NASA so far. We had lots of holiday fun and Christmas was fantastic. I found out two of my quilts were juried into QuiltCon, summarized my quilting income for the year, recapped things I made in 2019 and set crafty goals for 2020.
