First, a wrap-up of the crafty goals I had for winter:
- Get L is For… and Backyard Chatter prepped and sent off to QuiltCon. Done!
- Participate in the MQG swap. Done!
- Make a baby quilt. Started, but not finished.
- Finish my Gypsy Wife quilt. Not done. Still just a top.
- Turn my barn quilt blocks into a finished quilt top. Nope. Still just blocks.
- Also done:
- Kept up with the Rainbow Triangles Block of the Month.
- Took a longarm orientation class and then longarm quilted and finished off my Modern Flag quilt.
- Made a mini mini valentine quilt for Jose.
- Made a lanyard for QuiltCon (that I didn’t end up using, ah well).
- Stitched a word for the #inourownwordsquilt project by Kim Soper.
- Made a mini quilt for an Alison Glass swap on Instagram.
- Did some secret sewing — a throw-sized quilt — that I’ll talk more about later.
- Saw my Vector block published by the Modern Quilt Guild.
- Tech edited several patterns for a client, and did some graphic design work for three other clients. (Here’s one of those.)
- Joined a new chapter of the MQG that’s in my area! Yay!
I clearly didn’t accomplish all my goals…because dang, I added a TON of other things to the list instead.
From April-June I’m hoping to:
- Make my first “commissioned” quilt. A girl I know from my coop days at NASA contacted me back in February about making a quilt from her kids’ old baby clothes. She still works at JSC too but we hadn’t crossed paths in years, but she sees my occasional quilting photos on Facebook! We talked over a few options and I agreed to make the quilt for her, with the up-front caveat that I wouldn’t be able to start on it until April since a couple of the items on my list above had hard deadlines in March.
- Do a 100-day project. It starts today! I’ll post more about my project tomorrow.
- Participate in my new guild’s Alison Glass quilt challenge. My new guild — the Gulf Coast MQG — is having an Alison Glass challenge. It was originally due at the April meeting this weekend, and I wasn’t going to be able to get anything done in time, but after a poll the group agreed to extend it to May. And since the Instagram swap barely made a dent in my AG stash…I basically MUST participate now, right??
- Finish the baby quilt. It would be sad to let it linger any longer!
- Keep up with the Rainbow Triangles BOM. The April blocks were quick so I’ve already knocked them out! Feels nice to be done! From what I can tell, there may only be one month left of block-making before we get into top assembly. It’s going to be fun to see these come together this summer.
This list is pretty front-loaded, since ideally I’ll have all three of the quilts (baby clothes, baby quilt, AG challenge) done by mid-May. But I want to leave myself some breathing room, since history shows I will certainly decide to add additional projects along the way!
