Searching // For my groove. It’s been missing since the move, which I suppose is to be expected. Many nights I wander through the house feeling aimless and tired.
Feeling // Like I’ve hit a wall in the entire moving process, which is probably heavily related to what I said about my groove. On the plus side, I can say that 95% of the boxes are unpacked. But I basically want all of our things to magically be put away now. I’ve got my office/sewing room furniture all set up after a trip to Ikea last weekend, but I’m overwhelmed by the thought of getting all my stuff organized…so it sits in piles. As do many other things in various places around the house.
Scratching // The ever-living crap out of the new-to-us hardwood floors. They’re birch and absolutely lovely to look at — and I’m actually surprised at how much I like the light color even though I never would have picked it on my own. But holy moly is this stuff soft. We haven’t even been here a month and there are already at least half a dozen fairly deep gouges caused by moving, dropping things, and who knows what else. This is soooooo not the right flooring for our lifestyle, but I also have no desire to spend several thousand dollars replacing 1000+ square feet of flooring right now. We’ve resigned ourselves to living with it for at least a few years and embracing the inevitable scratches and dents as a sort of “weathered” aesthetic.
Vacuuming // Like never before after buying a Dyson. I took advantage of a 15% off coupon for Overstock.com and bought a V6 cordless. I’ve had it for less than a week and y’all — this thing is amazing. It might even be life-changing.
Reconsidering // Our living room layout. We haven’t mounted the TV yet, and I think it’s partly because we just really don’t like the idea of the TV over the fireplace. Sigh. Other options are back on the table — including a new option of just putting the TV smack in front of the fireplace. We’ll see.
Hoping // For some interest in our old house soon. It went on the market a week ago and no bites yet. My ideal scenario is being under contract by the end of September and closing by the end of October so…fingers crossed.

Hi Sarah, I understand your feeling of having lost your groove…we moved into our house in December 2013, and it still sometimes doesn’t feel like home nearly 3 years later! It’s a long process but it gets better and easier. Love seeing pictures of the house! Also understand about the soft floors, our first house had the same and the cats would scratch it if they got freaked out and dug their claws into it.

Thanks for the encouragement! I know it will take time for it to feel like home but sometimes I can be pretty impatient. 😉

Why is the dyson so great? My vacuum is not good so I’m in the market for a new one.

I got the bottom level V6 cordless. We have cleaners, so I was really replacing our crappy $40 dustbuster. In other words, I needed something for spot cleaning, not whole house vacuuming.
The cordless thing is awesome — the battery life is fairly short (especially on max) but I only use it for a few minutes at a time. It’s really lightweight. It’s got a long attachment so I can use it standing up vs. stooping over with the dustbuster. It operates with a well-placed trigger. The bin is really easy to empty. And it has surprisingly good suction for such a small machine. It works great on our hard floors and seems to work pretty well on carpet too.
It’s expensive but so far I definitely think it’s worth it.
