Unpacking // Still more boxes. This process will no doubt continue for another few weeks but overall, I’m actually feeling pretty good about where we stand after a week and a half in the new place. The girls’ rooms are totally set up except for wall art and curtains. The kitchen, living room, master bedroom and guest room are about 80% set up — there aren’t any boxes remaining (except, again, wall art) but there are still a lot of loose items floating around that need new homes. The study (which will be mostly Jose’s room) is maybe 40% done. We’ve unpacked a lot of boxes in there but have quite a few left. And the dining room (which will be my sewing room/office) is 0% done, therefore today I’m…
Working // On setting up my new sewing room! It may still technically be the dining room, but I’m no longer adhering to any notion that it might ever be used for dining. I have to work around a window, a door, and a large opening to the foyer but I’ve been playing around with floor plans and I think I can make it work. Ideally I want a large bookcase for storage, a large-ish table for my sewing machine, a collapsible cutting-height table, and a medium-sized desk for my computer — but for now I’ll do the best I can with the furniture we already have.
Planning // A small gathering to celebrate Charlotte’s 1st birthday — which is only a week away!!
Thinking // About my running plans for the fall. I’m registered for the half marathon in January…but I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve run since the 5K I did nearly 6 months ago. I don’t have any illusions of serious training this year, but I do want to get back to a reasonable level of fitness and be able to run most/all of the race (vs. walking a lot).
Needing // A lawn service ASAP before our new neighbors forever brand us as “those people who let their grass get crazy high.”
Browsing // The list of classes that will be offered during Quilt Festival this year. I’ve never taken a class as part of the festival but maybe this year’s the time to start! I can’t believe it’s only two months away — it feels like I was just there wandering the halls with 2-month-old Charlotte.
Making // A new friend, I hope. We met back when I was really active in the local triathlon club and have been Facebook friends since then. I’ve noticed over the years from her posts that we have a lot of the same interests. We both (used to) do triathlons. We both quilt. We both work in aerospace. She has two boys that are a few months older than Emma and Charlotte. I hadn’t acted on any of this because I’m really bad about instigating social activities — but it turns out that she also noticed how much we have in common and asked me if I wanted to have lunch. So we did, and it was great! Making friends as an adult is HARD, and I’m pretty excited to potentially have a new one.

With that picture, I’m curious – what did you decide to do with the TV?
Sarah says
We’re going to put it above the mantel, but we haven’t mounted it yet. Turns out the previous homeowners left behind two wall-mounted TVs in our bedroom and in the study, so we’ve been using those for now. Not having a TV in the living room has actually resulted in much less mindless TV watching…so who knows, it might be a while until we get around to installing it!

Oh good luck with the new friend! It is so hard to find new ones as an adult. I am an extroverted introvert and I always have to remind myself to just keep pressing on and making invited and to not take any of it personally.
