I’m celebrating my own 30 Days of Creativity this month for the fifth (!) year in a row.
Another June has come to an end, and with it comes the end of my self-imposed 30 day challenge. I’ll be wrapping it up tonight — probably with some cross stitch. Overall it was another fun challenge to myself and I got a lot done. At the beginning of the month I had intentions of pushing my creative boundaries more than I actually ended up doing, but that’s ok. The point was to have fun, and I did.
June 22-24 – I finished piecing my Sea Geese quilt top, quilted it, and finished it off with a backing-as-binding technique that worked really well. This one is going in the mail this weekend towards its tiny recipient. Hooray for a fun and easy project!
June 25 – I immediately dove into another quick and easy baby quilt I’m calling Celestial Swoon. I got the piecing all done in a single day, which always feels like a big accomplishment.
June 26 – I finished my cross stitch medallion! I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it — the kit includes a length of cord to make it a necklace, but I may hang it somewhere or turn it into a Christmas ornament instead.
I also basted and quilted the Celestial Swoon quilt…but I made a completely bone-headed mistake on binding. Instead of cutting 1 inch away from the finished quilt top to allow me to fold the backing over to the front as binding, I cut right along the edge of the quilt top. ARGH! I realized my mistake quickly…but not quickly enough. The quilt had to be bound in the traditional way after all, which takes longer but in the end will work out ok.
June 27 – I decided to just hand stitch the binding on the Celestial Swoon quilt, so I spent an hour watching TV and working on that. I’m a slow stitcher, and the binding is minky which is more challenging than typical quilting cotton. I’ll get there eventually.
June 28-29 – I did a little work on Charlotte’s stocking, stitching snowman noses and top hats. Slow and steady, right?
June 30 – TBD! I’ve got several ideas on how to wrap up my month tonight, from more cross stitch to something totally different. Any other ideas?
