Emma has had exactly one haircut in her entire life — the “baby mullet chop” I did shortly after she turned 1. For those keeping score at home, yes, that was just over two years ago! Her hair has gotten longer and longer, and we’ve occasionally talked about getting it cut, but hadn’t actually done it. But then on Friday night I gave her a bath for the first time in a while (my mom and Jose have handled bath time for the last month) and noticed her hair when wet came all the way down to her waist.
I decided it was haircut time at last! So yesterday afternoon, Jose and I left Charlotte to enjoy hanging out with his mom, and headed off with Emma for her first “official” haircut.
We took her to a local kids’ haircut place and spent a whopping 10 minutes (and $20 — how does a 10-minute kid haircut cost $20??) getting a trim. She was scared at first and cried for a moment, but quickly calmed down when she realized she could watch Mickey Mouse Club while the stylist worked and would get a lollipop at the end.
The lady even styled her hair at the end! She took a section on each side just above her ear, twisted it, and then pulled those two sections together at the back with a rubber band. It looked really cute.
In the end, we only trimmed ~1.5 inches so Emma’s hair really doesn’t look very different. But it’s a lot neater and a lot less scraggly at the ends. What a cutie!
