With my pregnancy officially over and no more weekly updates to write, I’m moving these weekly “currently” posts back to Fridays!
Snuggling // Charlotte whenever I can…which is actually not that much since Jose’s mom is here. Ha! She loves to feed her and hold her as much as she can, so I’m reminding myself to enjoy the added downtime. After she leaves on Monday, Jose and I are on our own for a while — and Jose will be going back to work either late next week or the following Monday. I haven’t been home alone with Charlotte much at all since she was born, so it will definitely be a change. It’ll be sad to see our visitors end for a bit, but I’m also looking forward to settling into somewhat of a maternity leave routine.
Loving // This post from Kelsey (Rising Shining) on talking about your day with your kids — even preschoolers and toddlers. Jose and I ask Emma about her day all the time, but I love the idea of then telling her about our days too. When I was a kid and my family sat down to dinner, we would go around the table talking about our days, but I don’t remember if my parents did the same or if it was just us kids.
Coordinating // All sorts of household stuff. I already mentioned the new bookcases, and on Monday we had a landscaper come out and do a bunch of much-needed yard work. (See the end result above!) They trimmed all our trees, created a new bed in the back yard around our plants, and fixed up the front yard bed which — yet again — was overgrown. This time they put down some kind of cloth-like weed barrier, so fingers and toes crossed that this keeps the weeds to a minimum and we’re able to stay on top of it this time before it gets too out of hand again. And finally, we had a Verizon guy come on Wednesday to relocate our FiOS internet hardware from what is now Charlotte’s room to the upstairs bonus room. It’s nice to be able to make a phone call and magically things get taken care of!
Laughing // At this xkcd comic. The first two panels are TOTALLY accurate for me, and my fear of the third panel is exactly why 1) I have a financial advisor instead of trying to do it myself and 2) I stick with mostly proven, relatively safe investments.
Marvelling // At what seems like a crazy amount of growth after Emma’s first several weeks in “pre pre-K” at daycare. I guess part of it could due to seeing the contrast between Emma and her newborn sister, but I don’t think it’s JUST that. Since she moved to the “big kid” side of the school the last week of August, where the classrooms follow more of a curriculum, I swear her vocabulary has doubled and her understanding of various things has gone way, way up. I mean, she just turned 3 and she’s already writing her freaking name! My mom says she’s had kindergarteners who couldn’t do that! As much as I’d love to take all the credit, I really think a good 75% of it goes to the daycare. I love our daycare so, so much.
(Emma is a pretty easy name to say, spell and write. Poor Charlotte will undoubtedly take longer to figure out hers. Sorry Charlotte!)
Feeling // Cautiously optimistic that we are finally nearing the end of potty training with Emma. (To recap: she’s been good with #1 for months but not really at all for #2.) But in the last several days she’s 3-for-4 on both 1) pooping in the potty and 2) TELLING us she needs to far enough in advance that we make it there. On top of that, we ran out of nighttime diapers so she’s just been in undies for the last couple nights and has woken up dry. I fully expect we’ll still have some accidents, but she seems to have turned a corner. Yay! Of course, now we’re back into another 2-3 years of diapers with Charlotte…
Thinking // About doing a bit of sewing this weekend!
