This year I’m participating in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word workshop. My word is “enough.” All of my OLW posts are here.
This month’s prompt was all about using music and song lyrics that focus on our words. I had a surprisingly difficult time with this one at first, because I took it very literally. There are a zillion songs with “enough” either in the title or lyrics, but I also discovered that the vast majority of them focus on the general concept of “can’t get enough.” This isn’t particularly useful when I’m trying to focus more on the fact that I already have and do enough, and don’t need to add anything more!
I ended up with an extremely random mish-mash of lyrics. Some of these are from songs with my word in them somewhere…and some aren’t. Some are songs I have been listening to a lot lately, like “Let It Go” (yes, still) and Andy Grammer’s “Honey I’m Good.” Some are songs I hadn’t thought about in years, like Sarah McLachlan’s “Good Enough” and some old standbys like James Taylor and Counting Crows.
I have to admit that although it sounded like fun at first, this may have been my least favorite prompt this year. I just didn’t really connect with it — it felt like something I was doing out of obligation rather than something really helping me reflect on how things are going.
I figure one or two prompts that don’t resonate with me are probably normal though, so…onward!
