This year I’m participating in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word workshop. My word is “enough.” All of my OLW posts are here.
Whew, this month was a very writing-centric month, and those are the harder ones for me. It’s a lot easier to put together some fun photos than it is to really think about what’s going well and what’s not, and how to act accordingly.
One of the last prompts was to pick three things I’d like to accomplish by the end of the year. Here are my three things:
1. Put my word somewhere I’ll see it every day. One of my biggest challenges in the last month or two has just been flat out forgetting about my word. It sounds silly, but remembering it really DOES help me enforce the idea that I’m doing enough, and helps me cut myself some slack. I’m going to write my word on the bathroom mirror, or make it into a wallpaper for my phone.
2. Do the Couch-to-5K program after the new baby arrives. It worked really well for me in summer 2014, and I feel very strongly about doing it again to jumpstart me back into a running routine and back to some base level of fitness. If I accomplish nothing else between September and December other than a) making it through the first several months with a newborn and b) starting C25K, then I will be happy.
3. Set a path for 2016 that is realistic for what will be my life as a working mom with a 3-year-old and a baby. I know I’m going to try to do too much, and will stress myself out as a result, and I’m hoping that recognizing this and thinking about it in advance will help keep things manageable.

Running a 5K about 6 months after Briony was born after 9 months of no weight-bearing exercise and feeling lousy was seriously the best feeling ever. I took it slower and easier than I did after Isla was born, and I think that was a good approach. In short – good goal!

Hey I might set a C25K goal too! We can be goal buddies. I like the idea of having a set plan to get back to being more active after baby arrives. Because other than walking the dog and for my commute, my activity level has essentially dropped to zero because 1) I’m tired; 2) I’m big; 3) I’m hot and feel overheated all. the. time.

This totally motivated me to finish my OLW July check-in and set a 5K goal by my little one’s 1st birthday. Also, I love your approach in #3 – I have an almost 3 year old and an 8 month old and I’m working out of the home. I’m constantly reminding myself that I can only do so much and still take care of myself. Sounds like you are off to a great start!
