We got back a week ago from a quick 3-day, 4-night trip to visit my family in Charlotte. We had a wonderful time with my family even though the reason for the visit was a little sad. My Grandmother, who passed away in July, would have been 100 years old on October 3. Her whole family — 15 people now! — gathered in Chapel Hill at the church she attended for decades for a small and lovely service. The day was beautiful and the sky was Carolina blue, which she would have loved.
Emma has 3 cousins now — all boys! The newest is little Thomas, who was born at the end of August. He’s a cutie and has a ton of awesome hair.
She and Lucas are both 2 now, which kind of blows my mind. They had a lot of fun running around in the front yard chasing bubbles (and each other) and enjoying the spectacular sunny fall weather.
They also enjoyed this airplane set that my mom bought from a friend whose kids had outgrown it. It was so cool! Old school toys are the best. And see that dollhouse behind Lucas? I remember that from my own childhood! They don’t make toys like that anymore, which is totally a shame.
I think I’ve mentioned this several times before, but my parents still live in the house I grew up in, which backs up to a huge city park. It’s so cool to be able to walk down the street or around the lake with Emma and have several playgrounds really close by.
Emma is reluctant, if not downright uncooperative, when it comes to photo-taking these days…as you can see.
But she and Lucas both did a great job staying cool and collected for this family photo! I will totally credit the flashing and beeping of the camera’s automatic timer for that.
We are going back to Charlotte for Christmas this year. I already can’t wait!

Wait–wouldn’t that be a 4-day, 3-night trip?

Nope. We were there for 4 nights, but really only 3 full days since we arrived in the evening and left in the morning.
