In non-cross-stitch-but-still-crafty news, I mentioned recently that this month I’m testing a new pattern by one of my favorite quilt bloggers — Elizabeth Hartman of Oh Fransson. I saw a comment exchange on Instagram several weeks ago about pattern testing, decided to offer myself as a tester, and voila! She offered her summer testers a choice of patterns (first come, first served) and I happily got my first choice: Pointy.

The draft pattern has instructions for two versions — a square with 5 arrows, and a larger quilt with several sets of arrows. I decided to just go for the smaller one this time, since I like the nice, neat look of it.
I picked out several fabrics I already had in my stash. These are from the same fat quarter bundle I used for my road trip case a few months ago. The collection is “SpringHouse” by Stephanie Ryan for Moda and I love it.
Once I settled on the five fabrics to use for the arrows, I got to work cutting. On Saturday afternoon, I also stopped by Joann to find something to use as a background fabric and quickly scooped up a dark blue/teal fabric with a subtle crosshatching pattern. It fits in with the fat quarters surprisingly well, but still gives a lot of contrast so the arrows will stand out!
I sewed the arrowheads first, and then last night I pieced together the “feather” portions. Next up is putting together each arrow itself.
I’ve still got a lot of piecing to do (not to mention quilting and binding) but I like the direction this one is heading and it’s fun to think that my process of working through the pattern will help Elizabeth finalize it before she puts it up for sale. (And it’s neat that by testing, I get a pattern for free.)
I have to have this one done by July 25, so expect to see it again over the next two weeks!
