I’ve been making great progress on my Once Upon a Time sampler and finished up the February block last weekend. This month’s fairy tale was The Frog Prince, and had a love theme as you can see from all the hearts and sweets and arrows. I’ve been posting a lot of updates as I stitch on Instagram, where there is a sizeable community of other people working on this same sampler. In January, I saw a lot of them make small tweaks to the pattern here and there. Some changed the characters to match Disney movies too — adjusting the colors of Snow White’s clothes in January to match the blue, yellow and red dress she wears, and turning the February princess into Tiana (from The Princess and the Frog, which I never saw) with her green dress and updo hairstyle.
Inspired, I decided to change the right side of the February square. I didn’t want to turn them into Disney princesses, but I wasn’t really crazy about a portion of the original February pattern which had pink lettering running up between the frog and the right border spelling “Smooch!” I removed it, and filled that space with another cupcake, another arrow, and a few small details. I’m happy with how my modified square turned out!
I plan to continue working on the border while I wait for the March pattern to appear in my inbox. I should be able to at least complete the March border — a mirror image of what you can see surrounding the January square — by the end of this month.
And just for fun, here’s a fun little video of my progress so far:
