I’ve mentioned the Lucky Stars Block-of-the-Month “club” I joined in a couple other posts, since working on these blocks has been a monthly goal recently. On Friday, I spent some time putting the November block together. I was a little worried as I got started because there were a lot of small sections — 3 rows of 6 sections = 18 sections! These blocks are only 6.5″ square when finished (the club includes templates for either 6.5″ or 12.5″ blocks but I chose the smaller ones, since I’m envisioning this being some sort of wall hanging when completed), so lots of sections means lots of seams in not a lot of area, and not a lot of fabric to hold on to when feeding it through my machine.
Still, the block came together surprisingly well:
It’s definitely not perfect — a few of the pink squares came out a little lopsided — but overall not bad! I’m amazed at how the polka dots line up in some places. That was completely unintentional but worked out well.
Here’s a reminder of the October block, which was the first one in the series I actually got done
That one is my favorite so far, even though it was the first. I just really like the colors I chose.
When I went to the fabric store to stock up in preparation for starting these blocks, I bought something like 15 or 20 different fat quarters in a rainbow of colors. I’ve used different ones for each block so far, but going forward I plan to mix them up so that when all 12 blocks are finally put together, there will be good cohesion between them all. I think it would also be really cool to do each block in solids, and will probably do that for the 2014 patterns.
Since I finished the November block so early in the month, I’ll be able to do a few others before the December template comes out!
