I’ve heard of Froberg Farms several times over the years since they’re located really close — in Alvin, only about 20 minutes from our house. But I had never paid them a visit until Saturday, when we decided to check out their pick-your-own-strawberries fields.
Oh man! How had I never gone there before!? I was totally missing out. All three of us had a great time and the strawberries are delicious. The buckets are $1 each and the berries are $2.25/pound. We only got one bucket for now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we go back later this month for more.
They have a small grocery store with lots of fresh produce, where we ended up getting some homegrown brussels sprouts that I’m looking forward to making tonight. Jose and I also split a strawberry lemon fried pie — totally delicious. They also have a small smokehouse that smelled great, although we didn’t go inside this time.
Fair warning: the rest of this post is just a photo dump of my cute kid frolicking among the strawberries!
Emma had just as much fun zooming up and down the rows as she did actually picking strawberries.
Try as I might, I just could not get her to look at me for a daddy-daughter photo. Toddlers! What are you gonna do?
Our half gallon bucket ended up holding 5 lbs of strawberries when they were piled to just above the brim. We ate about 1/4 of them fresh on Saturday and Sunday and I used another 1/4 to make strawberry cupcakes with strawberry buttercream for a Super Bowl party. I hulled and froze the rest to use for upcoming yumminess.
Mmm delicious strawberries!

I’m so jealous that you can have U-pick strawberries in January. While we’re sitting up here in the Midwest having snow days…

I am also jealous of your u-pick since ours aren’t usually open until May or June! Great photos! I really like the 3rd one with Emma’s intense concentration on the strawberry, and the one of Jose kneeling and looking at the strawberry with her. Aww I need some Emma time, come visit soon!
