*Summer 2024: I am accepting tech editing requests, including new clients, with general availability shown below. My availability for illustration and writing/ghostwriting services is extremely limited.
I offer a la carte technical editing, technical illustration, and pattern writing/ghostwriting services to quilt pattern designers and quilting content creators. I have 6+ years of experience working with dozens of clients, including well-known independent pattern designers, book authors, major fabric manufacturers, and quilting content creators.
Most tech edits require ~1.5 hours; complex patterns with a large number of pieces and/or quilt sizes may require more time. Design and layout, illustration, and/or ghostwriting projects vary greatly. I will provide an estimate of the hours required once I know more about your project.
I work in a variety of applications, including Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, Microsoft Word, Google docs, and PDF files. If needed, I can also work with Electric Quilt 8 (EQ8) files. References are available upon request.
Current Availability
The calendar below is a rough snapshot of my availability for your planning purposes; a blank week indicates that I am likely available. As always, please contact me when your pattern is ready for editing. Rush service may be available for an extra fee.
Tech Editing
Tech editing is a top-to-bottom review of your quilt pattern including:
- Confirming quilt and component dimensions
- Verifying fabric requirements
- Verifying cutting layouts and/or written cutting instructions
- Reviewing instructional and how-to diagrams and graphics
- Proofreading and editing written instructions
Turnaround time is usually 5 business days, but can vary based on demand. (See calendar above.)
Illustrations & Layout
I can help help with several parts of this process, from translating rough hand-drawn diagrams into high quality vector illustrations to prepping files to be print-ready.
Turnaround time is usually 1-2 weeks, but can vary based on the project.
Pattern Writing/Ghostwriting
Have a pattern idea but not sure where to start or want to outsource the writing part? In a ghostwriting relationship, I do some/all of the pattern writing, but you retain full rights and authorship of the pattern. I am also happy to discuss pattern collaborations or other partnerships.
I require at least 4 weeks to create a print-ready pattern with illustrations.
Note: once I provide a final draft, I strongly recommend sending it to another tech editor. I cannot effectively tech edit a pattern I have written.
