Summer was great…but not great for quilting. I’m feeling a bit low today, which means I’m saying things to myself like “why do I even bother making these goal lists when I’m not accomplishing much of anything on it.”
Rationally, I know there are many good and valid reasons why I’m not sewing much — a full family schedule, significant home improvement projects that have everything in disarray, and a consistent tech editing queue. But the emotional part of my brain wants to wallow.
I’m going to keep moving forward with quarterly goals. Overly optimistic? Probably, but I’ll take it.
First, a wrap-up of my goals for summer:
- Catch up — and stay current — with Quilts Unscripted Bee blocks. I completed May, June, July, and August blocks.
- Finish the star quilt I started in 2021. I thought about it. Does that count?
- Write Diamond Flip pattern. Nope.
- Design and create a stitchable pantograph. Nope.
- Make a quilt for this year’s QuiltCon fabric challenge. I have a possible design but that’s it.
- Also done:
- Added some hand quilting to a group project.
- Crocheted a unicorn.
- Made a purse for Charlotte.
- Continued work on two ongoing embroidery/cross stitch projects.
- LOTS of tech editing.

For the rest of 2025, I basically have 2 goals — in October, I want to finish at least 1 QuiltCon entry, and in November/December want to decide what I’m doing next year with my career. That second one is clearly the elephant in the room, and I’m not much closer to a decision than I was a couple months ago, but time will force my hand eventually.
In an ideal world though, I’d love to wrap up several projects as the year winds down from October-December:
- Finish this year’s Quilts Unscripted Bee blocks. September, October, and November (and we take December off).
- Finish one good QuiltCon entry. This may finally be the year when I break my streak of QC entries, but not without at least a tiny fight. I’d like to finish either my star quilt or a fabric challenge entry.
- Prep my QuiltCon workshops. I very much would like to get my workshops completely prepped by the end of this year, rather than have to panic in January. (Kidding not kidding.)
- Finish my 2 in-progress stitching projects. One is a weekly stitch along from The Steady Thread, and the other is a cross stitch version of one of my quilts.
- Finish 2 UFOs. I made a list of 6 at the beginning of the year, and have done 2/6. Finishing with 4/6 complete would be great!
It’s fall y’all. Off I go!

I have been thinking of you and hoping that you are on the path to feeling good about a decision about your career. And good luck finishing up a QuiltCon entry quilt. I am feeling the crunch this year, too!
I don’t know much about QuiltCon, but have you though about the checker quilt? I really like it.
I entered it last year and it wasn’t selected for the show. I did enter it again this year — maybe a different jury will have a different idea. We’ll see!
