I’ve been pretty busy on the “non-sewing” side of my sewing life for the past couple months. Lots of pattern writing, lots of tech editing. I haven’t touched my sewing machine since the very beginning of June. Fortunately, there are ways to sew without a machine!

I’m all caught up on the blackwork embroidery stitch along (pattern from The Steady Thread). 29 weeks down and 23 to go!

I also jumped into my own Pathfinder cross stitch pattern. I started this last week while watching the baseball All-Star game, and we’ll see how much progress I make on vacation this week. (Historically I always think I will sew on vacation, but I rarely do.)

I promised months ago (eek) to make Charlotte a purse (same pattern as this one) and was hoping to get started on it last week, but that didn’t happen. We did select fabrics though! I think these will all look really nice together, and while I wouldn’t have chosen the white speckle for the outside…she wants what she wants! So I will go with it.

I also spent a bit of time adding hand quilting to a fun group quilt I was invited to participate in. I made this R block back in late May. Now that the quilt is put together and basted, we are sending it around for each person to contribute to the hand quilting. I added an outline around my R, and some X stitches on a few of the small 9-patches…plus some other quilting in areas that aren’t pictured here.
Hopefully I will find the sewing machine again soon!

I feel like everything comes in waves these days, and I hope whatever you work on flows easily when you are next at your machine. I also always think I’ll do more stitching on vacation than I ever do. Better safe than sorry and unprepared!
