First things first — I may have set a new record over the past three months for “fewest goals accomplished.” It’s been that kind of winter, or that kind of year, or that kind of phase of life! In February, I was ordered back to the office full-time by the current presidential administration. While there are some positives to this, there are also a lot of negatives for me personally.
In any case, I’m not able to control the in-office mandate and am doing my best. And on the quilty goals front, I’m taking deep breaths and not letting myself be too stressed about the “lack of progress” because there have been plenty of other excellent things happening.
Like I said last fall — I continue to find value in this quarterly goal-setting practice regardless of my specific output each season.

First, a wrap-up of my goals for winter:
- Catch up — and stay current — with Quilts Unscripted Bee blocks. I completed my October block, but still have more catch-up to play.
- Write Diamond Flip pattern. Nope.
- Finish 1 UFO. Nope.
- Prep and launch this year’s Pantone Quilt Challenge. Done!
- Design and create a stitchable pantograph. Nope.
- Also done:
- Finished this memory quilt.
- Longarmed and finished the MQG Board of Directors quilt. (Haven’t posted, but pic below.)
- Was on a podcast.
- Went to QuiltCon!
- Made a throw size quilt for an upcoming fabric collection. (Will share this next month.)

Looking ahead, for the first time I’m adding a list of “maybe” projects for this quarter. This is a collection of things I’d like to do, if/when time (and mood and energy level) allows. But it’s also an acknowledgement to myself that quilting will stay on the back burner for a spring full of school end-of-year and swim team starting and big reviews at work and whatever else crops up.
With that said, here’s what I’m planning for January-March:
- Catch up — and stay current — with Quilts Unscripted Bee blocks. I need to make 4 overdue blocks, then jump back on track with each current month. This is my top priority — I feel badly that I’ve fallen so far behind.
- Wrap up this year’s Pantone Quilt Challenge.
- Update/re-release Quarter Moon pattern. This is a pattern I wrote almost 10(!!) years ago as a personal project, but never really sold. I’ve revamped the construction and have a deadline of mid-June to have it ready.
- The “maybe” list:
- Write Diamond Flip pattern. I got started on this and then stalled. A few more solid work sessions should be enough to get this one across the finish line.
- Finish 1 UFO. Preferably one of the ones on this list that I made for Jandi’s challenge!
- Design and create a stitchable pantograph. As much as I want to do this, it just hasn’t risen to the top of the heap yet. :-/
Happy spring!
I still think it’s amazing what you are able to accomplish. I am definitely feeling the need for a lot of deep breathing and relaxation techniques right now, too, and it’s interesting that I don’t have the energy or pull to quilt much, either…
I think it is amazing you get as much done as you . Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the chaos we now live in, except take care of our loved ones the best way we can.
