The year is winding down, and I’ve got several projects I haven’t documented here yet. So let’s get to it! I recently finished this Halloween-themed blackwork embroidery piece — about 10 days after Halloween, but who’s counting? It was a fairly quick project that took me about 3 weeks, and I look forward to finding a spot for it amidst my Halloween decor next year.

The pattern is Spooky Moon by The Steady Thread, and I stitched it on black 18-count Aida cloth using 12 wt Aurifil thread. To frame it, I chose a black wood from by Modern Hoopla that I bought from Sewfinity — I happened to get a marketing email from Sewfinity promoting these frames right when I needed it. Good timing! This is the 6″ frame and it was the PERFECT size for my version of this pattern.

I’ve been on a hand stitching kick for a while now, and I’m realizing perhaps it’s not just a “kick” at all. I’m loving longarm quilting and yet I also really like to have some sort of handwork project in progress. I’m not sure what I’ll jump to next, but I’ve got options — a couple Dropcloth Samplers, another cross stitch idea, or heck, maybe even a hand pieced quilt.

The stats:
- Spooky Moon by The Steady Thread
- Stitched on 18-count Aida cloth; design measures ~6″ circlular
- Stitched with 12 wt Aurifil thread
- Frame from Modern Hoopla
The black wood frame is perfect for it; I love it when the timing of things works out that well!
