I finished this year’s 100 day project last week, and even though I didn’t share much about it here or on social media, it was one of my more successful projects in recent years.
After my post on day 50, I spent several weeks mired in one step forward/one step back and little overall progress. I attempted to make some larger squares, starting with the blue and white one in the picture above. After several undos and restarts, I finally finished — even though I’m pretty sure I miscounted a few rows in there.
I next attempted a crocheted sawtooth star that started to turn into a trapezoid and was stitched so tightly that I finally gave up (and eventually unraveled the whole thing).
Finally I reverted back to smaller squares and made a four patch…where I’m pretty sure I miscounted the rows again. D’oh!
But good news — I was able to rally in a big way for the last 2 weeks and made all of the blocks you see above in just those 14 days! I made several blocks in rows, and also learned a more “standard” granny square from another book I picked up — A Modern Guide to Granny Squares by Celine Semaan and Leonie Morgan. I ran out of blue yarn (argh) just shy of an improved sawtooth star block finish and have one more green/navy block in progress.
Most significantly, in the last 2 weeks I learned to loosen my grip and my tension, which has made the process much more enjoyable and comfortable on my hands! I’m not sure why I was suddenly able to make this change, but I’m glad it happened.
Overall I enjoyed this project and I definitely learned a lot. New patterns, and how to read different types of patterns. The difference between US and UK terminology. I developed some yarn preferences, and improved my tension and technique.
I’m not entirely sure what I’ll make next — I’m thinking a small blanket? More amigurumi? I also got ambitious and ordered the beginner sweater kit from Wool & the Gang. I’m looking forward to more!
