Spring is springing and making me want to do all the things and quilt all the quilts! Ahhhh!
But first, a wrap-up of my goals for winter:
- QuiltCon lecture + workshop + seminar. Done!
- Kick off the 2024 Pantone challenge. Done! (And it’s not too late to join!)
- Write & release Alpha pattern. In work.
- Install Intelliquilter on my longarm. Done – but whew, this was a journey. (More below.)
- Make Quilts Unscripted bee blocks each month. Done!
- Finish my Haralson belt bag. Done!
- Complete 1 practice quilt with Intelliquilter. In work.
- Also done:
- Finished my Sunsparks quilt.
- Started a 100 day project.
As I said above, installing Intelliquilter on my longarm turned out to be A JOURNEY. I had been told the installation would take about 5 hours, but my experience was quite different. For a variety of reasons — including quality of instructions, my trips for QuiltCon and spring break, and life in general — it ended up taking me probably 10-12 hours spread over an entire month. Whew.
I’m happy to report that the system is working perfectly so far, which is a relief, but installation was frustrating. I bought my system from a dealer in another state, because there’s no Intelliquilter dealer in my area, so I knew from the start I would be doing a “self-install.” My dealer did provide support, and she was very responsive, so that was good! But let’s just say that if you are considering Intelliquilter and have the option to have someone install it for you….I’d strongly consider doing that.
Anyway! Here are my goals for April-June:
- Quilt 2 quilts with my new Intelliquilter. I have one in progress already!
- Finish & release Alpha pattern. This one is kind of involved to write, and I’ve been dragging my feet.
- Wrap up the 2024 Pantone challenge. We’ll be accepting entries from April 22-29 and then awarding prizes on May 6!
- Make Quilts Unscripted bee blocks each month.
- Make my cozy quilt. This is part of the recent Alison Glass sew-along. I’ve got all the materials and just need to sew!
If this goes well, I have a couple other “on the back burner” projects I’d like to dive into. Happy spring sewing!

While the Alpha pattern might be involved, I suspect it is because of the quantity of different types of blocks and that just takes time and effort to see through. It will be really fun to see how quilters use the font when you release it! Looks like a really productive first quarter, and congratulations on persevering through the Intelliquilter installation.
