I signed up for the Houston MQG swap and was excited to make a little gift for Lynn, my swap partner this year! She said she’d like to receive a bag or pouch, and listed purple, magenta, green, and/or teal as some of her favorite colors.
I bought Carolyn Friedlander’s Split Pouch pattern when it came out but hadn’t tried it yet, so this was the perfect opportunity! I used two Wandering fabric fat quarters (from the same bundle I used for this quilt) that leaned into the magenta/purple colorway, with a few hits of green.
The pattern includes three sizes, and this is the large size — big enough to hold a rotary cutter or pair of scissors along with plenty of other notions. The nifty part about this pouch is that it has a couple snaps strategically installed so that you can snap it securely into the open position pictured below, sort of a double-sided bowl. Fun!
I enjoyed making this pouch, but I’m also glad I made the large size. I think the medium and small sizes might be more challenging, particularly the step where you apply bias tape to enclose the raw seams on each end of the pouch. That was a little tricky for me!
Unfortunately I had something come up and wasn’t able to make it to the December guild meeting, so I ended up mailing this to Lynn so that she’d have it before the holiday. In my haste to get it delivered, I forgot to take any photos other than the two included here.
I hope Lynn enjoys the pouch and is happy using it in her sewing room!

Love the coordinating fabrics you used. I agree about the bias tape. No way I’m making the smallest version. 😉
