During our Europe trip last month, we arrived in London on a train from Paris in early afternoon…and a few hours later, I had dragged my family to Liberty of London for a bit of fun fabric shopping! I didn’t have a specific project in mind, so I ended up purchasing two different pillow kits (plus a couple other items). These were really fun projects to jump into when I got home!

The first kits included 30 hexies plus EPP templates to make a 12″ square pillow. It’s been a couple years since I did any EPP, but once I got started I couldn’t stop — I basted all my hexies and stitched the whole pillow top in only 2 days.

The kit didn’t assume any sort of quilting, but of course I chose to go that path and finished the top with a quick three-way triangular grid. I love the result!

The second kit contained several 2.5″ strips of fabric with instructions on how to get 2-3 pieces per strip and make a simple log cabin. This once went even quicker since it didn’t involve any hand piecing, and I finished the pillow in a day. It’s hard to see in the photo above, but I quilted it with a 1″ diagonal grid. This pillow finished at 18″ square.

(Therrrrrre’s that delicious quilty texture!)

I totally want to make a whole crazy floral quilt from Liberty fabrics now — maybe even an EPP quilt?? But in the meantime, these pillows were really fun to make, and will be a great reminder of our trip for years to come.
Really beautiful pillows. I love Liberty of London, and wish it was easier to purchase fabrics and kits here.
I like the hexy one particularly. I reminds me a bit of some of the old pillows my great aunt in Ireland had on her couch for years and years. It’s funny how little things can stick in one’s memory.
