When Aurifil Thread announced last fall that they’d be releasing 3 spools of NEON thread to coordinate with two new Tula Pink collections, I immediately wanted to know how I could get my hands on some! I saw a sneak peek at the colors at Quilt Market last November, and after (im)patiently waiting through the winter, I was treated to my own set of mini spools for this month’s Aurifil Artisan challenge.
I wanted to make something where the thread really stood out, and you probably won’t be surprised to see that I turned to my tried-and-true method for experimentation — fabric postcards! I made a set of 5 “wholecloth” cards that feature different thread motifs. All were created on my domestic sewing machine using a walking foot with Aurifil 50 wt neon cotton thread.
I enjoyed working with all 3 neon colors, but after making the first five, I definitely landed on neon yellow as my favorite! I couldn’t resist making one more postcard in what is my more “typical” style — improv-pieced fabric scraps with a skewed diagonal grid on top. I love how the neon yellow really pops against the dark fabrics!
If you want to grab some for yourself, Aurifil is currently taking preorders for the 3-spool neon collection. Here’s to happy — and bright — quilting days ahead!

Such a smart way to play with the new colors. The yellow really does have the perfect neon glow!
