This year continues to be a bit of an oddity for me, creatively. I have the mental energy to make blocks, do cross stitch, and do computer work (writing, editing, patterns, messing around in Illustrator). I haven’t had the motivation to make much of anything more substantial — with the notable exception of Cosmic Shores, my fabric challenge quilt.
This quilty “languishing” has gone on for quite a while, longer than previous stints. I’m grateful that this goal-setting process works well enough for me that I continue to make progress on plenty of things despite my low motivation….but I miss my sew-jo. I hope it returns soon.
First, a wrap-up of my goals for summer:
- Finish my QuiltCon 2023 fabric challenge quilt. Done!
- Finish #100daysofsaroystars. Nope.
- Finish at least 1 item on my 2022 UFO Challenge list. Nope.
- Make progress on my cross stitch project. Done!
- Write and submit my fourth article for MQG Fundamentals. Done!
- Release 1 new pattern. Done! I released the updated and expanded Ribbons pattern.
- Make Quilts Unscripted Bee Blocks each month. Done!
- Make the HMQG BOM block each month. Done!
- Also:
- Led the Gulf Coast MQG community outreach quilt effort.
- Made blocks for another community outreach quilt I’m doing with friends.
- Participated in the Back to School Blog Hop.
- Lots of tech editing and ghostwriting.
Here’s what I’m planning for October-December, keeping my larger yearly goals in mind as I go.
- Secret sewing project. I’ll be able to share more in a few months. But it’s tops on my list because there’s a deadline (aka I will definitely get it done).
- Make a pillow for a book blog hop. More on this later this month.
- Finish my cross stitch project. I’m getting close!
- Finish 1 more item on my 2022 UFO Challenge list. This would get me to 4 for the year.
- Take a Procreate class. This was one of my yearly goals — time to do it!
- Make Quilts Unscripted Bee Blocks each month.
- Make the HMQG BOM block each month — and sew them together into a quilt top.
Send me all the good sew-jo vibes for a great fall season!

You did great with your summer goals given that your sewjo has been low. I hope you find your groove again this fall and look forward to seeing your secret sewing project. 🙂

Agree with Mrs. Jetgirl, I hope you get it back. It seems to me that your summer was very productive! ☺️

Given that the secret sewing project is the one I had to forego the contract on — everyone will see it soon I hope! Ha!
