Yesterday…
I went into the office for a couple meetings. I’ve been lazy about actually going in since we got back from vacation — it’s just so much easier to dial in from home! But being there in person is helpful for certain things, and a couple of my coworkers were also in so it was nice to chat in person about the stuff we’re currently working on. With the girls heading back to school, I plan to be a bit more structured in my at work vs work from home schedule, which I think it will be a good thing.
I acquiesced to the girls’ request for Sonic slushes after I picked them up from camp, then got myself a diet cherry limeade. When I was super pregnant with Emma in the summer of 2012, I drank SO many cherry limeades — a funny memory.
We had La Madeline takeout for dinner, then played a few rounds of UNOcorns (aka Uno but with unicorns and a special narwhal card). We have been on a game kick lately; over the weekend we bought Catan Junior and taught both girls how to play it on Monday evening. They picked it up quickly and enjoyed it! I like playing games as a family so much more now that both girls are old enough to play better games.
Today…
I shared another progress shot of my cross stitch on Instagram. Will I finish it by the end of August? Almost certainly not, but maybe the end of September? In the end, it doesn’t really matter since it’s a just-for-fun side project.
I will enjoy a “slow” work day (aka a day with only 1 meeting) and take the opportunity to catch up on a few things I haven’t been able to get to since coming back from vacation.
I will listen to my friend Melissa Mason’s lecture “Appropriation or Appreciation? Navigating Cultural Minefields in the World of Craft” tonight at 8:00 central. (It’s not too late to register if you want to hear it too!) While I listen, I’ll be making another 2-3 blocks for my fabric challenge quilt.
Tomorrow…
It’s “Meet the Teacher” morning at the elementary school. The girls start 5th grade and 1st grade next Wednesday! They are both anxious to find out who their teacher will be and more importantly, which of their friends will be in their class. Fingers crossed things turn out they way they want…
It’s Jose’s last day of work at his current company, where he has been for the last 3 years. He starts a new job (still engineering) at a new company on the 22nd and is excited about it. The new job is also a full-time remote position! Even though he has worked from home a lot since covid, not having an office at all will be a change for sure.
Both girls have their first Kuk Sool Won belt test, after two months of classes. They’ll be getting their yellow stripe belt and are excited about that.

We started school today and Forest was very glad his BFF was in his class. Hope the girl’s have a great new year!

It still seems weird to me that they start school on Thursday or Wednesday, etc. I feel like school always started on Monday, but maybe I’m remembering wrong. Anyway, hope he has a good year!

We also got the Catan junior recently and my girls love it. I can also recommend Ticket to ride junior. It has a bit more possibility for strategy which makes it more fun for parents. We’ve had it since Christmas and have probably played it multiple times a week since then and I still enjoy it.

Lots of big happenings in life for you all. I hope that Jose’s last day goes well. I’m glad he’s taking a bit of time before diving into a new job, and hopefully it’s a great fit for him and the family!
