The latest MQG Journal was released earlier this month, and I’m happy to share my second article. This time I’m talking about y-seams and partial seams. (Note: you must be a Modern Quilt Guild member to access the full article.) These are piecing techniques as opposed to specific blocks, but I walk through each technique using the example blocks pictured above.
To help you practice these skills, I also designed the Tesseract block as this quarter’s Block Study. (Again, you must be a Modern Quilt Guild member to access the block pattern.) This block incorporates both y-seams and partial seams in its construction and has lots of fun possibilities for a full quilt design based on how many colors you use and where you place them in the block.
