Over the course of the last year, I bought three small pieces of quilt art! I’ve always enjoyed buying art for our house, but this is the first time I’ve purchased art from other quilters and fiber artists. After letting these pieces sit for a few months, I finally hung them on a small wall in my sewing room today.
They look so happy there! All three of these pieces are different in style — both from each other, and from the type of quilts that I create — and I think I’ll enjoy having them on my wall.
This piece is by Carson Converse. I was introduced to her work when I saw one of her quilts hanging at QuiltCon 2018 and have followed her since then. She does minimalism so well, and I love how thread often features heavily as a design element in her work. I have a habit of treating thread more as a secondary component, and would like to try using thread in different ways myself.
This piece is by Heidi Parkes. Her work features extensive hand stitching and hand piecing, almost always in an improvisational way. I have followed her online for several years, and picked up this small piece during a sale a few months ago. Her quilts are so, so different than my own but I admire the thought and care that she puts into each piece and the free-flowing results.
This piece is by Emily Van Hoff, who I found on Instagram earlier this year as she was sharing some really cool and unique wall hangings. I very nearly purchased one of those hangings, but don’t have a good spot for it right now so I picked up this smaller piece made from scraps and trimmings. The bright colors and high contrast make me happy. This piece has already inspired me to do more with my own scraps in the coming year.
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blogging challenge.
