I mentioned my blog when my mom was here last week, and she admitted she doesn’t always remember to read it anymore. “Well, it’s always about quilting,” she said.
I mean, she’s clearly not wrong.
I enjoy having a blog and don’t intend to stop blogging anytime soon, but it does seem that social media (and specifically Instagram) managed to “steal” a lot of my blogging mojo.
I am hoping to do more non-quilt-related blogging in 2022 but honestly, sometimes I feel like I’ve forgotten how to just write about…just whatever is happening. This is somewhat surprising after spending literally YEARS posting multiple times per week about whatever totally random and insignificant things were going on that day.
And hey, the photo below represents the only quilting I’ve done in the last two weeks anyway.
I made this top a couple months ago in a Libs Elliott workshop hosted by my guild. It’s a mini — only 20″ square. I started hand quilting it on the road to Corpus Christi for Thanksgiving, but then I didn’t like my quilting motif, so I stopped for a week and finally picked it up and restarted it yesterday. I’ve done one pass of diagonal lines and tomorrow perhaps I’ll start another pass in the opposite direction.
It has been quite the doozy of a week around here. I alluded to some of it in my post on Sunday, but things got even more “fun” yesterday when Emma woke up and said she didn’t feel good. Around 8:30 she threw up. She rallied after that for a bit, before feeling awful again in the afternoon.
Jose took her to the pediatrician late yesterday afternoon for a strep test. She said her throat was only a little sore, but since Charlotte had strep and it can cause nausea and vomiting (in kids more than adults, I’ve learned), I figured it was worth checking out. But the strep test was negative. Just a good ol’ stomach bug.
Thankfully Emma woke up feeling a lot better today, so it was just a 24-hour thing that worked its way out of her system. She and I will both be happy to have her back at school tomorrow.
I’ve got an all-day meeting tomorrow at work which is never fun, but during the breaks I’m hoping to take care of alllll the kid school stuff I need for the next two weeks. I need gifts for the school giving tree (we signed up for 6-year-old and 8-year-old girls), plus contributions to each class for THEIR giving tree recipients, plus teacher gifts, plus 24 tiny items for the kindergarten party (ugggh).
It’s a lot. Some of which I signed up for, and some of which I did not — but rather had foisted on me. Target curbside pickup, here I come.
But of course in between sickness and obligations, there is fun too. I may not be quilting, but I’ve been working on a new puzzle. Playing a bit of piano. Coloring on my iPad.
And blogging!
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blogging challenge.

Sarah, oh, I’m happy that the house is on the mend. I try and get to IG daily, but it can be a rabbit hole, while blogs, sweet, short or not. I love this 20” piece! I do not like hand quilting tho, funny, no patience! I love the varied colored threats you’re using. Good luck getting all the pressies for everyone, phew!

Thanks Marty!

I miss your non-quilt posts!

I’m glad the girl’s are feeling better! Hopefully all will be well into Christmas. I started my blogging mojo up again but then lost it and now I need to figure out how to find it again. I used to write so many random things—which end up on Insta Stories now. *facepalm* I missed out on the holiday party 24 item thing—the teacher posted it to Dojo and before I knew it other parents had claimed everything—which is fine by me. We only had to go out and find a pair of silly socks for a silly sock exchange and that was easy enough at the Target Dollar Spot!

Ooh, such a good point about the random stuff ending up on IG stories — that is how I tend to use IG stories these days too.
And geez, I *wish* the kinder holiday party was a sign-up thing because…I would just not have signed up. But nope, they want EVERY kid to bring 24 things. Emma’s class did this when she was in 2nd grade and while the kids loved it (because they get 24 things), I thought it was ridiculous. SIGH. Anyway, I found 6-packs of chocolate Santas so that should work.

I also miss your non-quilt posts. Though I figure this evolves over time. I remember a couple years almost all your posts were about running. Its just what we’re thinking about and wanting to record at that time in our lives.
I will say for me, my 2011 blog deletion + facebook/insta has really killed my personal mood for blogging.
It seems to me long form blog-style writing, particularly for commercial purposes, has moved to Substack.

True, when I was running and triathloning (ah, those pre-kid years when I had hours to run and ride my bike) I wrote a lot about that.
Yeah, Substack is interesting. I think you’re spot on with the idea that it is a home for what used to just be blogs, but now more polished and with an easy way to monetize. I’ve found several writers there that I really enjoy, and I’ve seen other people moving from their previous platform to Substack. I really want to work on spending more time reading those types of long-form writing instead of endless scrolling Instagram.
I miss your blog/FB/IG. Becoming a lawyer really made you less (publicly) fun. 😉
