It’s been a somewhat slow start to the year, at least sewing-wise…but even slow means I’ve still gotten a few things done! I’ve written about three mini quilts I’ve made this year — this butterfly mini for the ForeBatten Foundation, my MQG swap piece, and my Mars mini. But there are a few other things that I haven’t documented here!
In January, I quilted two banners for the Social Justice Sewing Academy Remembrance Project. I did these on my longarm and despite a few hiccups, I was pleased with how they turned out and grateful for the opportunity to help with this important project.
Also in January, one of my guilds hosted Daisy Aschehoug for a lecture and workshop. We made her Spinoff quilt pattern, which was a fast and fun make featuring quarter circle blocks. I pulled all of these fabrics from my stash and the color palette is a little different for me, but I like it! I haven’t had a chance to quilt this one yet, but hopefully soon.
At the very end of January, I mailed off five 8″ squares for the Violet Protest. These will be part of a much, much larger art exhibit. They are currently on display in Phoenix, and will eventually make their way to members of Congress in Washington DC. The one above was my favorite, I think — full of thread and fabric scraps held down by tulle and quilting.
Yesterday was the halfway point of this year’s 100 day project, and I have a stack of 50 star blocks in various sizes and colors to show for it! I’m enjoying this project again, although I am starting to get a little nervous about what these will all look like together at the end…
And finally, I’m playing along with the Quilt Coat-Along (#quiltcoatalong) hosted by my friends Jessica and Tina. That’s a quilted sleeve panel in the photo above! I’m making the Tamarack Jacket pattern by Grainline Studio. I made a practice coat mockup using a cheap quilted blanket I got online, and now I’m in the process of making the real thing. After debating several options, I finally decided to just go with something I know I’ll wear — and that means more subdued in both color and style. I’m using a dark green solid on the outside, and a fun leafy blue and green print on the inside. Fingers crossed it continues to go well!
