Apparently I never wrote a December wrap-up/January goals post, and never realized it until now! If that’s not a sign of my current tired and distracted mental state, I don’t know what it.
So! December and January are in the past and both were pretty good. The holidays came and went, the inauguration came and went (big sigh of relief), and all of our parents have successfully received their first dose of covid vaccine. The year is looking up!
Also, there were cake pops. Yum.
December/January wins:
+ Christmas. We had a nice holiday as a family, and the two weeks I took off from work were sorely needed (and wonderful).
+ COVID vaccine. My parents (in North Carolina) and Jose’s mom (in Corpus Christi) have all gotten their first dose! I’m so thankful, and feeling relieved that they should have a robust level of protection by the end of March.
+ A new presidential administration. ‘Nuff said.
+ Outdoor playtime. We have started to play with our neighbors again, although we do limit them to outdoor play only. All four kids are in school/daycare so it is not without risk, but there are benefits too.
+ Kiwi crates. I’d considered these several times, and finally got each girl a 6-month subscription for Christmas. Charlotte’s is the basic crate with a different activity each month, and Emma’s is the Atlas Crate with projects focused on a different country. They both loved the January projects. Emma’s box was all about Greece and she made a little Trojan horse, complete with secret compartment!
+ Quilting projects. I lost my “sewjo” for most of last month, but finished my Countdown quilt in December and released a pattern in January. (And Modular Maze was my most successful pattern launch to date!)
February goals:
+ Go on a walk 3 days/week. I have to start somewhere to get back into good habits! This week I literally blocked out an hour on M/W/F on my calendar.
+ Eat reasonably. I managed to maintain my weight through the holidays, and have lost a couple more pounds in the last weeks. Seeing progress is motivating!
+ Goodwill & e-recycling drop-offs. I have a pile of stuff in my line of sight right this moment that has been sitting there for more than a month — time to get rid of it. (Why does it seem so hard to actually get this stuff out of the house and dropped off?)
+ Enjoy QuiltCon Together. I am admittedly bummed to not be heading to Atlanta for another year of QuiltCon fun, but I am still looking forward to the virtual show. I’m signed up for a few classes and lectures, and plan to take two days off work just as I would have for an in-person show, so that I have the time to dedicate to those classes.
Happy February!

Her Trojan Horse sure looks like fun. I would loved those boxes so much when I was young! They look super cute playing outside. I need to start making myself do outside things again. 🙂

I totally wish there was an adult version of this box!! Ha!
