Today’s 31 Days of Blogging prompt is “on the design wall” so I’m sharing what’s on mine — although instead of a wall, I have a design FLOOR!
Earlier this year I joined The Solid Seven quilt bee, and November was my first month as queen bee. As I was thinking about what I wanted to request from my bee-mates, I was still working on my Bars quilt and wanted to experiment more with interesting and unexpected color combinations.
I asked my bee-mates to make 3 blocks in shades of red and green — but requested that they take a very broad view of what “red” and “green” mean. It could be anything from pink to burgundy, seafoam to olive, as long as it has red or green undertones. My goal was to use these colors in a way that DOESN’T scream Christmas.
These are the blocks I received from my bee-mates! I’m really happy with what they sent — the mix of tones and values is right on target, and the eclectic mix of blocks is just what I was hoping for.
I plan to start working on this quilt slowly over the next several weeks, adding my own blocks to fill in gaps and make the quilt bigger. I’ve never done a quilt quite like the before, but I’m excited to see where I end up!
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blogging challenge.

Love the range of colors in this one and will watch with interest as it progresses.
