I’ve done several 100 day projects now, but my efforts pale in comparison to Cassandra Beaver. She’s on her 4th project this year — having rolled from each one right into the next — and is currently the mastermind behind a 100 day countdown to the first day of QuiltCon Together on February 18. I couldn’t resist joining the kickoff on November 10!
I started out with a loose plan to make a monochromatic teal quilt by sewing one super simple block each day, and then spend the last couple months slowly hand quilting it. (My primary motivation was simply that I loved the process of hand quilting my Bars quilt and wanted another opportunity to do that kind of stitching.) I pulled a bunch of teal fabrics from my stash, organized them into pairs.
THEN I realized that the first day of QuiltCon is ALSO the day that the Perseverance rover will land on Mars. After kicking myself for not realizing that sooner so that I could make a Mars-themed quilt…I remembered that I’m allowed to change my project if I want to.
So! My 100 day countdown project is now two 50 day projects — or maybe still a 100 day project that will just result in two quilts? Either way I suppose, and it doesn’t really matter! I picked up the pace and started making 3-4 blocks per day and on Saturday — 75 days till QuiltCon — I finished my quilt top.
Yesterday I loaded the top and backing onto my longarm and sewed horizontal basting lines ~4″ apart, and today I’ll start quilting. I’ve got 24 days to quilt and bind it, which I think/hope is doable.
You can follow my progress at #saroyquiltsthecountdown.
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blogging challenge.

This could be a Mars quilt. . . there are some stars shining through in the last photo 🙂 I look forward to each of your posts–something beautiful, something real, something uplifting–just what 2020 calls for!
