Today’s 31 Days of Blogging prompt is “what I listen to/watch” and for me, that means podcasts! I will occasionally stitch in front of the TV or while listening to music, but most of the time you’ll find me listening to one of the many podcasts I’m sharing below!
Spacey podcasts:
- Houston We Have a Podcast is the official podcast of my employee — NASA’s Johnson Space Center!
- Are We There Yet? is produced by the Orlando NPR affiliate and covers a wide range of NASA and space exploration topics.
- 13 Minutes to the Moon by the BBC. There are two seasons that were produced for the 50th anniversary of the Apollo program — one that focuses on Apollo 11 and one on Apollo 13. Both are really excellent.
Career and/or Personal Development:
- Women at Work from the Harvard Business Review isn’t all applicable to my particular job and career, but there’s lots of good food for thought here on women in the workplace.
- Best of Both Worlds is a conversational-style podcast with two full-time working moms. I don’t always agree with them, but enjoy their thoughts on many topics.
- Happier with Gretchen Rubin. This is a easy listen on various habits and life hacks in pursuit of being happier.
- Small Things Often has super-short episodes with tips on how to improve relationships.
Quilting:
(Several quilting podcasts that I used to listen to religiously have kinda gone defunct. Are there new ones I should know about?)
- Quilt Buzz has quirky interviews with folks in the modern quilting world.
- Quilt & Tell is another interview-style show. I enjoyed their recent episode with Giuseppe Ribaudo.
- Running Stitch is from Quilt Alliance and again, it’s interview-style.
- American Patchwork & Quilting podcast. This one has been around for ages and while their current format isn’t my favorite (it’s a lot of tips and tricks), I still listen to it pretty regularly.
Miscellaneous:
- The Girl Next Door is one of the only podcasts I listen to that regularly makes me laugh out loud. I feel like I would 100% be friend with Erica and Kelsey in real life.
- Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach Braff and Donald Faison is another one that makes me laugh every episode. (Scrubs is one of my favorite shows of all time.)
- The Edge was a 7-episode series about the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal. I have MANY opinions on this one.
- Another Mother Runner is a good when I’m in a running groove (but makes me feel guilty when I’m not, heh).
News and/or Journalism:
I’ve cut WAY back on my news consumption this year, including in podcast form. But these are some reliable ones.
- This American Life. Who doesn’t listen to this already??
- Up First from NPR is a nice daily bit of news.
- The Daily from the New York Times is another good, bite-size bit of daily news.
- Nice White Parents. This 5-part series on a NYC public school was fascinating, depressing, and educational.
- The Oath features a wide variety of people with one thing in common — they work or have worked for the federal government. There are some really great episodes in there.
- Kottke Ride Home features short episodes on a huge range of interesting topics.
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blogging challenge.

Lately I have been adding some *fiction* podcasts to my rotation. They are really good – I find I like them better when I’m walking than when I was on commute when I tended to listen to all news podcasts. Some are stand alone and some are serial. Unsurprisingly, all by Levar Burton Reads are sci fi (and his definitely has lots of sci fi and fantasy)
Here’s my favorites:
Levar Burton Reads
Girl in Space
Life/After
The Message
I’ve heard Limetown is good, but I haven’t listened to it yet.
