I always feel happiness when October rolls around, and I refuse to let the craziness of 2020 dampen that. So hello October! Hello cooler weather and darker evenings and lots of pumpkin-flavored foods! I am ready!

September goals update:
+ Clear out at least 5 boxes/bags of unneeded stuff. Done! The stuff that was good enough for donation still needs to be dropped off though.
+ Replace the door seal on our washing machine. Nope.
+ Read 3 books. Done! I read 3 pretty light chick lit books and enjoyed them all, especially after spending the previous months on the intense Lord of the Rings trilogy.
+ Whittle down my current quilting to-do list. Done! I got several projects completed (including this long-lingering quilt!) and laid out a solid plan for the quilts on my to-do list for this fall.

Other September wins:
+ Charlotte’s birthday. Everyone in our family has now had a pandemic birthday and honestly, they’ve all been pretty good days! Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed turning 5.
+ Virtual school. It’s not exactly fun, but I’ve been SO impressed with how well Emma has handled online school, and how well she has managed her own work.
+ My wholecloth quilt. I love it so much!

October goals:
+ Be in bed by midnight every night. If I aim for every night, hopefully I can find success at least 5-6 nights per week.
+ Declutter to Destash. I’m participating in this challenge put on by Feel Good Fibers and looking forward to getting rid of excess sewing stuff (and maybe non-sewing stuff too).
+ Replace the door seal on our washing machine. Putting it back on the list.
+ New cabinet handles and doorknobs for the master bathroom. We had tentatively planned to renovate our master bath this fall, but covid nixed that as we don’t want a bunch of people going in and out of the house. But I can do a teeny tiny update via cabinet handles and doorknobs!
+ Figure out a fun and safe way to do Halloween. I think trick or treating might actually be doable? We’ll see.
I think trick-or-treating is safe. Maybe quarantine the candy? But I don’t quarantine my groceries, so perhaps that isn’t necessary. Obviously, masks. But that goes with Halloween. I have heard of some people planning a backyard Halloween party with multiple families in lieu of trick-or-treating because it’s safer, and I just scratch my head.
What time do you get up?
I had been getting up around 7:45. Now that Emma is back at in-person school, I need to get up at 7. So, not super early.
I feel like trick-or-treating is pretty safe as well, and hope that we’ll be able to do it.
It seems like a little thing, but I set a bedtime alarm on my phone. It forces me to think about going to bed at that time and at least make a more conscious decision not to.
I have done this…and found that I often just ignored the alarm. *facepalm* And no joke, I have also given passing thought to putting my wifi network and sewing machine on a timer that would cut power at 11:30 pm!!
It seems there are two kinds of people… the ones who can’t imagine still being awake at midnight and the ones for whom a midnight bedtime feels so early! I’m in the latter category as well. What’s been working for me lately is the promise that if I get into bed earlier, I can read for longer before I fall asleep.
That’s a good mental trick! I might try it!
