Jose celebrated his 40th birthday last Friday, and since I’m in the middle of my #100daysofsaroypostcards project, obviously I had to make him a birthday postcard.
So I quickly whipped up a wonky cake pattern! It worked so well and turned out so cute that I decided to share it here in case you’d like to make your own fabric birthday cake card for someone special.
These are foundation paper piecing templates, so you will need to have experience with that technique to use them. Check out my FPP tutorial if you need to learn — or get a refresher — this technique!
The candle flames are not pieced. I simply did several tight circles of free motion quilting with yellow thread to make them! You could also do a bit of quick hand stitching with embroidery floss. I think the candle flames are part of what really makes the card fun! What’s a birthday cake without candles?
Enjoy! If you make your own version, make sure to tag me on Instagram or send me a note. I’d love to see it!
