October was both the best and worst month I’ve had in a long time. We just had NON-STOP activity, and I spent much of the month feeling overwhelmed and inadequate at both being a parent and being an engineer. Not awesome. At all.
But I also had a ton of fun this month with baseball games and date nights and family outings and quilting events.
Bad and good, right? Two sides of the same coin.
October goals update:
+ Clean the kitchen vent hood. Nope. Didn’t do it.
+ Get the miscellaneous crap out of my sewing room. Nope. Also didn’t do it.
+ Make 2 gift quilts. Finished and gifted one. The second is still in work.
Other October wins:
+ Astros postseason games! Although the outcome wasn’t what I’d hoped, I did indeed get to watch the Astros play all month long, right up to their Game 7 loss on Wednesday night. I was super bummed…but cheering for the team that loses the World Series is still better than the other 28 teams that didn’t get to the World Series at all.
+ Fall festival family fun. We enjoyed the Bayou City Art Festival, Froberg’s Farm, Monster Bash at JSC, the (no) pumpkin patch, and our neighborhood’s fall party in the park.
+ Survived my first month as Gateway CSO. This is my new role at work and it’s been bumpy. I alternate between feeling like I’m starting to get the hang of it, and feeling like I am not getting the hang of it AT ALL. Also battling some pretty severe imposter syndrome and honestly not really being very successful yet at getting past it. But! I made it through the month. Small victories!
+ Kept up with a barrage of elementary school activities. Sock hop and fun run and student-led conferences and (cancelled) field trips, oh my.
+ Made owl cookies. Keeping the tradition alive! And this year our neighbors joined!
+ Quilt Market & Quilt Festival. I enjoyed several trips downtown to Quilt Market last weekend and time with quilty friends, and am heading back for Festival today!
+ Halloween! We had a great day and evening yesterday. At 7 and 4, my girls are totally in the Halloween sweet spot and I love it.
Onward to November, with a calmer head and cooler disposition.
