In My Sewing Room

Since returning from our vacation at the beginning of August, I’ve been sewing slowly and steadily and several different projects. I share them all on Instagram, but realized that I’ve been getting lax on documenting them here on my blog. Social media is great and all, but I’ve always felt like my blog is my online “home.”

I already shared my Shattered mini quilt, but since then I’ve been working on a handful of other things. Charlotte got a new bed in August, and needs a quilt for it of course. I started thinking of what she might like, and realized that my blocks from last year’s Rainbow Triangles Block of the Month were still sitting on my shelf waiting to be put together. The wheels in my head started turning and…

Me: “Hey Charlotte, do you want a RAINBOW quilt for your bed?”
Charlotte: “YES!!”

That was exactly what I hoped she’d say. I got all the blocks put together and after a bit of math to make it a twin size quilt instead of a square, I was able to finish the top and get it basted a couple weeks ago. I’ll be quilting it soon…

…but first, I’ve been working on my Trinket quilt from last spring (which I last discussed in May, as I was coming up with a quilting plan). It’s been slow going so far with a lot of threads to bury, but I think (hope?) it will be worth it in the end.

Last week, I took a day off work for a workshop with Irene Roderick that my guild hosted. She primarily does improvisational quilting, so we learned a lot of tips and techniques about how she works and how to apply her ideas to our own quilts. We were instructed to bring two colors and I chose a lime green and navy blue…but as the day went on, I ended up adding a few bits of other colors for variety. When I posted my progress on Instagram, a friend said it looked like an iguana hiding in the trees. I hadn’t seen that before but now I can’t NOT see it! This piece is still sitting in my sewing room as I debate what to do with it. Finish it here? Add more? Cut it up so the iguana disappears? I’m not sure yet.

And finally, I used our weekend jaunt to Corpus Christi as an excuse to make (a very small amount of) progress on my Pollinate quilt. Will I ever finish this one? We shall see!
