We kicked off our unofficial “kid birthday month” in early August when we celebrated Emma’s 7th while on vacation with my family. We followed that with a party for her a week and a half later. Then it was Charlotte’s turn!
Charlotte ended up getting basically 3 birthday weekends in a row! Her actual birthday was on the 2nd, celebrated with family and an afternoon of swimming with our friends. It was followed by a party at Pump It Up (the party place du jour) with her friends. And finally, a party in Corpus Christi on the 14th. What a lucky 4-year-old…
Our trip to Corpus last weekend officially wrapped up this month+ of kid parties. My mother-in-law threw a joint party for the girls, as she has for several years now, and most of the family came out to celebrate. (Also: throwback to the photo in this post from 3 years ago. Same location but 3-years-bigger kids! Awww.)
Our weekend trips to Corpus always feel a bit stressful because they’re so short — it’s both a blessing and a curse that Corpus is within reasonable driving distance. If it were farther, we’d go less often but for more days, like we do to North Carolina, and I think the longer trips are generally more relaxing. But I know that even the short trips are worth it. We got to see most of Jose’s extended family on Saturday, and spend extra time with Alex and Krystle and AJ on Sunday. The girls had a great time.
I also have to remember how much EASIER these trips are than they used to be, and keep things in perspective. We don’t have to pack diapers and bottles and baby food and multiple extra outfits. There’s no more fear of having to deal with any uncontrollable screaming from an inconsolable baby in the backseat. As long as the iPads are fully charged and we make a stop at Bucee’s, it’s pretty smooth sailing. And I am very thankful for that!
Onward to the fall holidays!
