I’m excited to be a final stop on the “Learn How to English Paper Piece” blog hop today! This new book by Carolina Moore is available now through Nancy’s Notions. They also have a nifty starter kit that comes with the book, paper pieces, thread, and more!
I spent some time paging through it, and say with confidence that it is full of great information. Carolina starts simple, going over the basics of how to paper piece hexagons and diamonds in a simple, no-nonsense way. She then offers step-by-step instructions for 10 different projects, from a cute hexie pillow to an adorable pillowcase dress.
My favorite project by far is the Dream Catcher. It’s unique — I hadn’t seen anything quite like it before — and a really fun way to make something small that still packs a big visual punch. I immediately knew I wanted to make one for myself, along with both of my daughters! And since my sewing room is currently out of commission as the wood floors get replaced, this mostly hand-stitched project is absolutely perfect. (It does recommend a bit of machine stitching to finish the EPP unit and essentially turn it into a mini-mini quilt before stitching it into the hoop.)
I printed myself a few diamond templates, cut them out, and got to work. I found a bundle of Japanese prints in my stash that I got at Quilt Festival a couple years ago and thought it would be really fun to fussy cut a diamond from each one to form the center of my dream catcher. Within an hour, I had completed this cute little star! I love it, and hope to fill in the other diamonds this weekend. I’ll have to wait until my sewing machine is set up again to complete the dream catcher, but I’m excited to get this little project hanging on my wall.
I encourage you to check out Carolina’s book, along with all the other bloggers who have shared their take on EPP!
