I have a very distinct memory from last December. I was upstairs in Charlotte’s room changing her diaper and thought to myself: “Next year at Christmas, I won’t be changing diapers anymore.”
I’ve come back to that moment several times, and there were definitely times this year — especially this fall as December grew near — that I thought it wouldn’t happen.
But y’all. For the first time in more than 6 years, I can say that I am DONE changing diapers!!!
Charlotte has been in underwear for at least a month now, and hasn’t had an accident since Thanksgiving. (And those were because she was in the middle of something fun, waited too long to go, and ended up making it to the bathroom but not quite to the toilet. So close!)
Potty training a second child was both easier and harder than the first. The easy part was primarily because Jose and I were both fairly lazy about the whole thing and purposefully chose not to stress ourselves out by trying to force it before she seemed ready. The downside of this is that she was already 3 by the time she got it, but the upside was less stress.
The hard part was constipation. (Sorry for the TMI, just keepin’ it real!) This seems to be a pretty common issue with kids of all ages, but this was the first time we’d had to deal with it. We got advice from our pediatrician at Charlotte’s well visit back in September, and while it took a couple months to get her system all sorted out, we turned a corner a couple weeks ago and things seem to be flowing well. (Pun intended.)
As a bonus, this also means I am done with diaper bags! I had a relatively nice diaper bag/purse for the first several years, but the straps eventually wore out. For the last 18+ months I’ve been carrying this $17 canvas bag which is functional, but not pretty. So to celebrate my diaper-free status, I treated myself to a nice, classic leather tote. (Thank you Black Friday sales.)
So HOO-FREAKING-RAY! I cannot overstate how thrilled I am to be DONE with diapers.
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blog writing challenge!
Wahoo a milestone down! We’ve been diaper free the last two years, well, we had night diapers for far longer than needed—they were dry a long time—but it is so freeing once it is gone, isn’t it?? SO glad to be done and Yay for you!
Nice. Bri has been diaper free during the day for about 2 years, but we’re still in diapers at night with no end in sight. I’m fairly unmotivated to deal with it at this point, which may be a mistake.
Charlotte has actually been waking up dry almost every morning…but she is still in her crib, so I’m hesitant to put her in underwear overnight until we transition her to a bed she can get out of if she needs to go.
