We had our first Santa encounter of the year at the library on Thursday night. Emma is an old pro by this point, but Charlotte is still pretty hesitant about anyone in costume and/or if she can’t see their face — including ol’ Santa. While she was SUPER excited when I told her we were going, but when the time came to actually get close to him, it was a no go.
While I love a good crying-baby-on-Santa’s-lap photo, I’m also pretty firmly of the opinion that when my 3-year-old clearly says that “I don’t like Santa,” I’m not going to push it. But one of the library ladies offered to take a photo for me, and we did manage to snag a photo in close proximity to Santa. With me there for peace of mind, she told him what she wanted for Christmas and even gave him a high five!

Jose, Charlotte and I had an unexpected day off work and daycare this week when the space center closed as part of the National Day of Mourning for President Bush. I had big ideas of what we could do that day — clean the garage! paint a bathroom! — but we ended up being much more predictable. After relaxing around the house for the morning, we went out the lunch and ran a few errands. I went for a run. We picked up Emma and went to swimming lessons. All in all, a nice day.
(Jose did do a good amount of clutter clearing in his study, so bonus points to him!)

I’m looking forward to what may be the most low-key weekend of our holiday season. Jose’s friend Seth was visiting last weekend, and next weekend we’ll be partying at a quinceanera for Jose’s cousin’s daughter. This is our one weekend with no visitors, no family events, and no impending Christmas Day!
That said, we still have plenty of plans. Our next door neighbor’s 3rd birthday party is today, and tomorrow is the annual Santa visit put on by my neighborhood’s mom’s group. Tomorrow is also our monthly Gulf Coast MQG meeting and I’m excited to share our finished charity quilt top with the rest of the group!
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blog writing challenge!
That first picture of your daughters is so sweet.
