It’s 9:31 pm and the children are nestled snug in their beds.
We’ve had a nice three days of break so far. We went to Zoo Lights on Saturday evening for the first time since Charlotte was a baby. That year, she was 3 months old and had a massive blowout and it was crazy crowded and we were like “WHAT were we thinking?” Apparently it took 3 years to get over that experience (ha) but I’m happy to report that this year was lovely. We got to Hermann Park around 4:15 and Jose joined the growing line while the girls and I walked around.
The zoo gates reopened for Zoo Lights at 5, and we got in quickly and were able to get snacks without any lines. Since the last time we went, they have revamped the setup a bit so that the whole crowd is funneled along a single path and while that may sounds like a bottleneck, it actually seemed to work a lot better than the free-for-all of past years. By 7:30 we were finished with a leisurely stroll around the whole zoo and enjoying ice cream back at the front, and by 8:00 we were on our way home. A nice night!
Today we met friends at the Museum of Natural Science which turned out to be a great way to spend the day and get out a lot of pre-Christmas energy. It wasn’t crowded at all, and we were able to spend a few hours with the dinosaurs, gems and minerals, and more.
The girls each opened one present before dinner — Legos for Emma (from Charlotte) and a toy BBQ food set for Charlotte (from Emma) — and we ate tamales by candlelight. We finished the evening watching a film version of The Nutcracker before shooing some tired kids to bed.
And with that, I’m off to work some magic!
p.s. I’m doing a 31 day blog writing challenge!
