Let’s pretend for a minute that it’s not the middle of August and a million degrees outside. Instead, imagine that it’s December and we have our homes all decked out for the holidays. Is there a tree skirt under your Christmas tree? And is it super plain and kind of ratty because you bought it for $15 at Target a decade ago? (No? Just me?) Either way, you might want something new this year — like a cute tree skirt based on a classic quilt block, which I just happen to have designed for Craftsy! Hooray!
This is the Double Aster Tree Skirt, based on the quilt block of the same name that dates back to at least the 1930s. I designed this tree skirt late last year, at the same time I was making the quilt block as part of my barn quilt series. Craftsy was looking for a twist on a traditional block and I thought this would be perfect — and happily they agreed! The finished skirt is ~48″ square (well, octagon) and is easily constructed from five basic units. No templates or inset seams required!
It may be August, but it’s never too early to get started on holiday sewing. This pattern is available in three different kits at the moment, so you can choose which look you like best.
- Lily & Loom Reindeer Run
- Boundless Home for the Holidays II – Classic (red/green/gold)
- Boundless Home for the Holidays II – Frost (blue/silver)
Happy holiday sewing to all!
